Patient preparation for PET/CT using 18F-FDG:

Before the administration of the radiopharmaceutical, we perform an orientation glucose test with a glucometer in each patient, the test is performed fasting - the fasting time is at least 6 hours.

We recommend in particular:

Drink plenty of unsweetened beverages, water, unsweetened tea, bitter coffee are best (milk, alcoholic beverages including beer or other calorie-dense beverages are not desirable). The day before the examination, avoid fatty and sweet foods.
If the patient has an appointment in the afternoon, a light breakfast (for example, unsweetened tea with a roll) is recommended.
Avoid physical activity for 24 to 48 hours. (Accumulation of radiopharmaceutical in the muscles invalidates the examination.)
On the day of the examination, avoid chewing gum, candy, etc. (Accumulation of the radiopharmaceutical in the chewing muscles occurs.)
In the case of parenterally administered nutrition or glucose-containing infusions, administration should be discontinued at least 4 hours before the examination.
The patient must be in thermal comfort for 30-60 min to prevent accumulation of radiopharmaceutical in the so-called brown fat (warm clothing especially in winter during transport). The patient stays in the ward (during i.v. contrast agent administration) for up to 3 hours, so it is advisable to take enough fluids, light food and, for example, a book or a tablet, etc.
In patients with hyperthyroidism it is optimal to perform a PET/CT scan with i.v. contrast administration in the state of compensation with appropriate thyreostatic agents.

Preparation of a patient with polyvalent allergy, with bronchial asthma:

Premedication with Prednisone tbl. p. o.: 40 mg 12-18 hours and 20 mg 6-9 hours before contrast agent application.

Preparation of a patient with diabetes mellitus (DM):

A consultation with a diabetologist is advisable, the recommended blood glucose level is up to 8 mmo/l, the patient should bring his/her medication, a snack and an unsweetened drink.
In patients taking metformin-based oral antidiabetic drugs (PAD), it is recommended to discontinue the medication on the day of surgery with administration of iodine contrast agent in patients with eGFR 30-60 ml/min/1.73 m2. Check eGFR 48 hours after surgery and reintroduce metformin when renal function is stable (unchanged from pre-procedure baseline values). For other PAD, discontinue medication on the day of the examination (patient is to bring appropriate overdose).
A diabetic on insulin therapy does not inject insulin in the morning of the day of the examination and follows a fasting period of 6 hours. The morning dose of insulin is administered after the examination and at the same time he/she eats breakfast (insulin and breakfast must be brough).
A diabetic with an insulin pump switches off the device about 4 hours before the examination.
For diabetics, good quality hydration with water is desirable.

Preparation of the patient for myocardial PET/CT:

• Avoid higher physical exertion for 24-48 hours before the examination.
• Eliminate fats in the diet from the previous day's evening.
• Light breakfast - carbohydrates, no fat.
• Patient with DM is not limited in the use of PAD or insulin

If the patient has already undergone PET/CT, PET/MRI, CT or MRI examinations in the past in another medical facility, please attach a copy of the result to the application form or send the image documentation, preferably in electronic form (DICOM format) or forward it to the local PACS.
