Information for the deaf
The Hospital Jihlava provides an information line where patients can contact an interpreter from the Deaf Association Brno, who will then contact the medical staff. Deaf patients can, for example, make an appointment for an examination or contact any department in the hospital.
In the outpatient clinics as well as in the wards, deaf patients can find QR codes, which they can use to connect with an interpreter via video call. The hospital has joined the Ministry of Health's Barrier-Free Hospital Project. "All you have to do is scan the QR code with your mobile phone, which will connect you with a sign language interpreter from the Deaf Association Brno within a few minutes. In this way, deaf patients can communicate with medical staff without the need to book an interpreter or be accompanied by a family member," explains Šárka Humlová from Deafcom, the company that technically provides the interpreting.
The service is free for patients.
