Information for patients
Proper treatment of vascular access = prevention of complications
- Before each dialysis session, wash the limb with the AV coupling with soap and water!!!!!
- Do not measure your blood pressure on a limb with an AV shunt!
- It is necessary to maintain the cleanliness of the limb with AV shunt.
- Protect vascular access from injury - punching, cutting.
- Do not scratch the skin around the AV shunt - high risk of infection!!!
- Do not wear tight bracelets, watches, clothing on the AV shunt limb.
- Do not lie with a limb with vascular access under the head or under the trunk when sleeping.
- Do not lift heavy objects or put pressure on the limb.
- Check your AV shunt pulsations regularly.
- Remove the dressing or patch after dialysis within 6 hours.
- Lightly treat the skin around the AV shunt with the recommended ointment.
Application of Heparoid ointment to hematomas (bruises) around the AV shunt:
- Apply a thin layer of ointment.
- Put plastic wrap (bag) over the ointment.
- Tie lightly with a bandage (do not strangle your hand!!!).
- Leave on overnight.
- Repeat until the bruise disappears.
